School's Out

Scripture

“I will not leave you orphaned. I’m coming back. In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you’re going to see me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive. At that moment you will know absolutely that I’m in my Father, and you’re in me, and I’m in you. …. “I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace.”      (John 14:18-20,25-27MSG)

School’s Out

It’s been several decades since I experienced a last day of school in June, but there is something about this week that brings it all back – sweating out the last couple of days in a contest to see who’s most bored, the teacher or you and your mates. And then freedom for play, cottages, summer camps, jobs and whatever you could access from your socio-economic group.

Even though it’s a distant memory I’m drawing on it as I stop sending you these missives for the summer It’s good for you and me to take a break – and even better for our administrator Keri who manages me and the process. Not to mention her now adult quadruplets (2 weddings in the last year, an engagement with a wedding next year and all launched vocationally).

Blessings on you and yours this summer. If you didn’t see last week’s email with the link to Prayers for Deck & Dock 2022 here it is again. When you see the card scroll down to the bottom, hit the print tab and you’ll be good to go.

We don’t know what joys or sorrows await in the next two months, but we do have the love of God, family & friends to sustain us. The Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise we will see you in September.

From Prayers for Deck & Dock 2022

O Father, give perfection to beginners, intelligence to the young ones, aid to those who are running their course. Give sorrow to the negligent, zeal of spirit to the lukewarm, and to those who have attained, a good ending, for the sake of Christ Jesus, our Lord.
(Irenaeus: c.130- c.200)
